What Are We Up To? Just A Minor Setback

If you follow our blog, you know what we’re up to. We just finished getting our boat ready for the 2018 season.

Suprise!!

First time back in the water and what happens? Our intermediate shift cable failed. Okay, just a minor setback and thank goodness it didn’t happen while on a long trip or far away from our home base.

Nope, this problem showed itself on a typical Thursday evening cruise on the “Conway Chain of Lakes“.

We keep our boat in covered storage at our business in Orlando, FL, and the Conway Chain of Lakes is literally a 1/4 mile from our shop.

So the outdrive is off, parts are ordered, and now is a great opportunity to inspect and replace our shift cable bellows, U-joint bellows, and raw water hose. Also, we can grease the U-joints while the drive is off of the boat.

What’s The Good News?

If there is any “silver lining” to this type of setback, it is that now we know that those parts are all new and we can have more confidence in these areas for the entire boating season.

As I write this, Jennifer reminds me to “not get too cocky”. After all, it is a boat. Stuff does go wrong. Parts do go bad.

Assuming that the parts show up early in the week, we hope to reassemble everything and hit the lake again on Thursday for a few hours and make sure that we’re good for our next trip.

We’ve had a warmer than usual February, and March is looking good for an early trip to one of our favorite destinations. Silver Glen Springs

what a day at the spring
Swimming in the Spring

We’ll do a post about the Silver Glen Spring with detailed information before we go and another with current pics and video from our trip including where we launch, the trip along the river, and our crazy friends that add flavor to camping by boat.
